Hunt for Lake Erie Carp Comes Up Empty

author near South Bass Island

On Tuesday of this week I spent the day on Lake Erie near South Bass Island fishing for smallmouth with some friends.  Smallmouth and walleye have pretty much slowed down by mid-August – but it didn’t stop us from reeling in some nice smallies – and yes much to our displeasure, many sheephead.

What I didn’t realize is that on this same day, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service was also out fishing on Lake Erie.

Unfortunately, for Asian carp.

Fortunately, they skunked out.
